Author: Estyrien al'Halien
Sierin Vayu was raised to Amyrlin Seat from the Gray Ajah in 979 NE. She replaced Tamra Ospenya, who was murdered by the Black Ajah. Her Keeper of the Chronicles was Duhara and her Mistress of Novices was Amira, both of the Red Ajah (NS, Ch. 14).
Chesmal Emry induced the Red Ajah to kill Sierin because Sierin knew that she was Black Ajah (WH, Ch. 10). Siuan had left her a letter explaining that the Black Ajah had murdered Meilyn Arganya. Chesmal had announced her death so Sierin knew that she was Black (NS, Ch. 18). Few people within the Black Ajah knew that Chesmal was responsible and Alviarin believed that Elaida was involved; considering that Elaida was Red, it is indeed possible (ACoS, Prologue). There is confusion as to which year Sierin was killed: in TWoRJTWoT she died in 984 NE while in WH, Ch. 10 it is claimed that she died in 981 NE.
Sierin was plump and had a round face but had hard eyes. She was quite short. Sierin's only piece of jewelry was the Great Serpent ring (NS, Ch. 14).
- Amyrlins are supposed to be lenient on the day that they are raised but Sierin ordered the exile of three sisters and penances for two others. Within half a week, all of the Tower's male clerks were fired for "inappropriate looks and glances" (NS, Ch. 14).
- Many people were surprised when Sierin chose the Gray Ajah upon gaining the shawl. Most had thought that she would choose Red (NS, Ch. 14).
"She had learned a great deal about Sierin from the whispers about the new Amyrlin. One fact struck deep, right that moment, like a sharp knife. To Sierin, her own view of the law was the law, and without a shred of mercy to be found in it. Or in her." (Moiraine about Sierin; (New Spring, Chapter 14)
"Sierin Vayu was raised Amyrlin shortly after, a Gray with more than a touch of Red in her. Had she learned what we intended, we would have spent the rest of our lives doing penance with Red sisters watching us even while we slept." (Moiraine about Sierin and the search for the Dragon Reborn; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 15)
